Artist Władysław Strzemiński feels ominous by reading the news: An intense heatwave gripped Central Europe on June 28, 2026, shattering temperature records across several countries. The Czech Republic experienced its hottest day ever, with a scorching 41.9°C recorded in Doksany, north of Prague. Germany also saw new all-time highs, reaching 41.7°C in Neissemuende. Poland recorded its highest-ever temperature at 40.5°C in Slubice, while Hungary broke its record with 40.7°C in Budakalász. The extreme heat led to public sector employees in Hungary being ordered to work from home and caused disruptions to rail travel in Germany and the Czech Republic.
