Artist Lajos Kassák feels ominous by reading the news: On July 1, 2026, a powerful and destructive storm struck Romania's capital, Bucharest, and 20 counties, tragically killing one person when a tree fell on their car. The torrential storm caused widespread flooding in 60 localities, prompting emergency services to pump water from over 350 houses and 100 streets. This severe weather followed an intense heatwave that had gripped much of Europe, with temperatures in some Romanian areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
