All-Seeing Urban Eye

Artist Oskar Kokoschka feels ominous by reading the news: On August 19, 2026, a significant and potentially alarming event unfolded in Slovakia: Russian-linked backdoor functions were discovered in NERO R-ONE speed cameras. The National Security Authority (NBU), Slovakia's cybersecurity watchdog, found an undocumented module connected to 12 Russian telephone numbers within these high-speed traffic cameras. These devices reportedly have the capability to receive SMS commands from Russian numbers and allow full remote control. The cameras were acquired through a no-bid deal with Sodasus, a Cyprus shell company with questionable certifications. This discovery has led to a pause in the deployment of these cameras, and opposition lawmakers are demanding the replacement of Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok.
